New Lonny

I was able to squeeze in a little free time for some Lonny magazine love today! I ooh'd and ahh'd over lots of stuff but picked these two images as my must post for today.

The first image is Lauren Gold's home. She by the way is design director for Nate Berkus, whateva! No, I'm kidding that's cool. The second image is of Nate Berkus Associates Chicago office. I'm a sucker for giant open spaces with exposed beams. I might have to add a brick wall though. Well, I will definitely be adding these pics to my file for inspiration. How about you?

Outdoor Inspiration

The weather here is still yucky. I'm in desperate need of inspirational images to keep me hangin' on until the weather finally warms. I think this pic just does that, don't you?

Summer, please come soon.XO

New Blog Love!

I'm doing my little happy dance this morning. I stumbled upon the most wonderful blog Little Blue Deer! All of the images below I found via this beautiful blog, and I promise this is only a very, very small sampling. I didn't know where to begin. I just started clicking and saving frantically, like maybe her blog would disappear, and I would be left devastated! So, if you are burned out on your usual sites for inspiration, make sure to check out Little Blue Deer. The sooner the better!

Progress with the Redo

Well, I managed to make it over to my niece's this past weekend despite the crazy, snowy weather! Although we weren't able to accomplish everything ( heart picture headboard), we did make some great progress! I need to retrieve the "before" picture from my cell phone and post. The room was originally painted a tealish blue! Here are a few of the "after" photos. I think she's pretty happy with the results. What do you think?

here is a pic of the metallic striped walls, the new panels, and the capiz shell pendant!

crown moulding shoe rack painted high gloss watermelon, new storage shelves, baskets, and labels

the vanity we painted a very pale pink, and re-covered the seat cushion in a silver metallic fabric

she needed a new laundry bag, so this is what I came up with...
and here is a close up pic of the storage bin labels that I made. The back side of the labels coordinate with the laundry bag.

More pics to come!

A Room Redo

Next week I'm helping my niece re-decorate her room. Here are a few images we're using for inspiration. We found a great deal on Ralph Lauren metallic paint, to use for the stripes on the wall. The capiz shell pendant was picked up from World Market. The inspiration for that piece came from a post on House Tweaking. The crown moulding shoe racks will be painted a glossy shade of pink called "watermelon!" The final image we thought would be perfect for her style. Plus it's age appropriate (16), and it's a great way to create a headboard!

Dining Room to Play Room

I'm in the process of converting our dining room to a play room. I figure we only use the space once or twice a year, so why not convert it to a space that Jackson can use every.single.day! The image below is my inspiration. I LOVE it! Right now the room is red (including the ceiling) the first thing we must tackle is re-painting, then we can move on to the fun stuff. I think a trip to IKEA is in order very soon, don't you? But, to kick things off today we'll be making a trip to the fabric store to make a couple of huge floor cushions.

will definitely be picking up a few hand puppets for our theatre productions!
and I love the bed on the floor in this pic

House Envy!

Awhile back I was searching for bathroom inspiration on Designsponge. There was one bathroom in particular that caught my eye. When I clicked on it, I found the link to images of the entire home of Samantha Reitmayer of Style / SWOON, and I immediately fell in love. With the exception of a few decorating bits and pieces, the entire house SCREAMS me! I will always love houses that feel more masculine, but with small feminine touches. Are you ready??? Here it is!

Make It Monday

Happy Monday all! How was your weekend? Mine as usual went by way too fast! But, I did find this new blog that I love. Dana, the author of House Tweaking, made this incredible headboard! Isn't that awesome! She refers to it as the "love" headboard! Check her tutorial out here.

Mantels!

My mom has this really great old white mantel. As of right now it's sitting in her garage. Maybe one of the pictures below will spark her interest. I know they all have mine. I'm especially loving the bathtub mantel. I've always had a love of clawfoot tubs, but with the addition of the mantel~ it's definitely perfection!

I apologize for not crediting these pictures, I can't for the life of me remember where I originally found them.

Dream Backyard

The weather here was so wonderful yesterday that I started to day dream about my backyard. Currently my backyard consists of a four seat table with a fire pit, a chandelier and some miscellaneous pots.
I came across these photos (quite honestly I can't remember where I found them- sorry to whomever they belong), but I love the feel of this outdoor space. Summer is right around the corner so I have already started planning my version of this outdoor space.
My outdoor space will be a little different, but that is the whole point of inspiration- not to copy, but create your own version. My husband isn't too crazy about the pillows- so I will make some that he feels more comfortable with. I love-love the abundance of succulents, I will definitely be planting several pots. I am currently acquiring miscellaneous chairs to surround my outdoor table. I have also sewn several panels to hang from the pergola we built last year. We were in desperate need of privacy from our neighbors.
Outdoor to do checklist:
  • Hang chandelier
  • paint chairs
  • finish cushions for chairs
  • make accent pillows
  • purchase and pot succulents (and lavender- my favorite)
  • find lanterns for table
  • hang panels
  • find decorative accents for table

Is your outdoor space decorated? I would love to see some photos!

SimplyHeddyShea Holiday Decor

I am so, so sad to report today that one of my fav go-to design mags “Cottage Living” has closed. I was just preparing to write a post on design inspiration for this holiday season only to read this news. Well, I guess I must find a way to move on, but how, how I say! This is a cover shot of the Cottage Living Nov/Dec ’08 holiday decorating- and I LUVS it lots. So, I am preparing my stockings and tree décor and will post my Cottage Living holiday decorating tribute photo very, very soon.

Also must give SHOUT OUT to one of my all time fav domestic gurus KATIE BROWN- she can do it all. Don't get me wrong, I loves me some M.S. (Martha Stewart), but I have more than enough love to go around! Here are a few pics of K.B.'s holiday decorating ideas from Country Home 2007- I will combine these ideas with the ones from Cottage Living (teardrop, teardrop) final edition ’08.

What I love most about the Cottage Living and Country Home photos are the use of burlap. I am currently addicted to burlap (and pinecones) and love finding new ways to make use of the inexpensive, earthy fabric. Don't you just love healthy addictions? What are yours?
