Wow, it's been quite some time since my last post. How time flies. This is my favorite time of year for everything, clothes, scents, texture, temperature, and of course food. I was searching for a dessert to make for Thanksgiving, and ran across this one from Rachel Ray.

Pumpkin Cake with Whipped Cream and Pecan Praline

Aren't you just drooling?? I love pumpkin flavored desserts, with the exception of pumpkin pie. Throw in some whipped cream and pecan praline and I'm all over it. After reading the reviews I know this is the dessert I will be baking to celebrate turkey day!

I was able to squeeze in a little free time for some Lonny magazine love today! I ooh'd and ahh'd over lots of stuff but picked these two images as my must post for today.

The first image is Lauren Gold's home. She by the way is design director for Nate Berkus, whateva! No, I'm kidding that's cool. The second image is of Nate Berkus Associates Chicago office. I'm a sucker for giant open spaces with exposed beams. I might have to add a brick wall though. Well, I will definitely be adding these pics to my file for inspiration. How about you?

Well, we've come to yet another Friday, and of course my main focus is always food. How could it not be? There are just way too many wonderful food bloggers, magazines, restaurants, and farmer's markets to ensure my obsession.

Today when looking for a recipe and image, I was drawn to this simple and rustic Flatbread with Honey, Thyme and Sea Salt! Doesn't that sound delish! I'm sure I could handle an entire batch all by meself with a glass of wine! You know you could too!

Saw this dessert this morning over at Kiss My Spatula, and all I can say is yum! I love quinoa, but have never tried it in a dessert. The topper for me is the lemon whipped cream! This is a must for me very, very soon.

I made it to the opening day of our Farmer's Market! I planned to take lots of pics, but sometimes plans just don't work out the way we intend. While I was walking around with my favorite little man (see pic below), I thought about what I wanted to make this weekend. Obviously the options are endless, but I decided on pickles! I looove anything and everything pickled! So that's it, decision made!

A Successful Sale!

I held my first ever yard sale this weekend, and it was a huge success. I was out at 6 am setting up, and not long after people were already filling the streets. I can't believe I actually worried if people would show up!

I did three things that I really think helped make it such a success.

~One, I had these balloons, and this boy holding them. Well, not the entire day, but long enough for me to take a couple shots! But, I had a large bouquet of balloons to grab attention.

~Two, I used one of my chalkboard frames to write this: Don't Be Shy, Come on Down, At least One Bargain is Bound to be Found! I placed the sign at the end of my driveway, and I'm so happy I did. I wanted to lure those people in that have a tendency to slowly drive by, and it worked! Plus, several people inquired on the frame, and if I would sell it. Of course I said no, but I gave out my email address if they were looking to have one made!

~The final thing I did that I think was an important factor was using twine and cream colored tags for all pricing. I bundled all sheets, blankets, kitchen items, frames, clothing, shoes, etc. with twine and a nice tag. People really seemed to appreciated my effort.

So there you have it, my three tips for a successful yard sale!

Food Friday! Leslie Stowe Crisps

Have you tried these crackers yet? Every time I purchase a box of these Raincoast Crisps, I can't control myself. Today, I picked up the rosemary raisin pecan, and they don't disappoint. I love rosemary, but a little goes a long way. These crackers have the perfect amount, just enough that you know it's the flavor your detecting, but not overwhelming. I LOVE them. I tend to eat them plain, but they are really made for toppings. I just never get around to it, they are just that good.

Make It Monday! A little thank you

I wanted to give my mom a little "thank you" for watching Mr. Jackson while my husband and I went on a date this weekend. She is in the process of getting her yard pulled together, so I thought flowers and herbs would be the perfect little gift. I picked up some cosmos, an orange flower I don't know the name of, and rosemary. I didn't want to present it to her in Home Depot bags, or the plastic containers they come in, so I came up with this. The container is a cheese box that was stained and lined with a neutral fabric. I added the flowers, and topped it all off with spanish moss, and a little note with Jackson's pic saying thank you. What do you think? She was pretty happy with it, and I am too!xo

Food Friday! Millet Muffins

The other day I made my first recipe from Heidi Swanson's new book super natural every day. I decided to make a recipe that was a safe bet for Jackson, and I was right. He loves the millet muffins- and they were so easy to make. If you don't already own it, you can go
here to get the book. Since I have an entire basket of fresh strawberries on hand, I think today I will try the roasted strawberry recipe for breakfast tomorrow- yummy!

Thought I'd throw in this last pic of Jackson and Whiskey boy waiting for daddy to come home last night. They usually wait for him together, side by side, it's pretty dang sweet.

Eggcellent Weekend!

Good Monday morning! We had a wonderful weekend despite the weather. Saturday night was spent dyeing Easter eggs, enjoying pizza, and lots of laughter. Sunday morning we made our usual big breakfast and relaxed while Jackson enjoyed his first Easter basket. Later on we went to the park, sushi, and home for a little Easter egg hunt. How was your holiday weekend?

He's One!

My little guy turned one last week. We celebrated on Sunday, what a great day! Both grandmas were able to make it, which was really important. Jackson loved all the attention. He even remembered to take a break from all the activity and smell the flowers. He's becoming quite the character. I love that kid!

Progress with the Redo

Well, I managed to make it over to my niece's this past weekend despite the crazy, snowy weather! Although we weren't able to accomplish everything ( heart picture headboard), we did make some great progress! I need to retrieve the "before" picture from my cell phone and post. The room was originally painted a tealish blue! Here are a few of the "after" photos. I think she's pretty happy with the results. What do you think?

A Room Redo

Next week I'm helping my niece re-decorate her room. Here are a few images we're using for inspiration. We found a great deal on Ralph Lauren metallic paint, to use for the stripes on the wall. The capiz shell pendant was picked up from World Market. The inspiration for that piece came from a post on House Tweaking. The crown moulding shoe racks will be painted a glossy shade of pink called "watermelon!" The final image we thought would be perfect for her style. Plus it's age appropriate (16), and it's a great way to create a headboard!

Dining Room to Play Room

I'm in the process of converting our dining room to a play room. I figure we only use the space once or twice a year, so why not convert it to a space that Jackson can use every.single.day! The image below is my inspiration. I LOVE it! Right now the room is red (including the ceiling) the first thing we must tackle is re-painting, then we can move on to the fun stuff. I think a trip to IKEA is in order very soon, don't you? But, to kick things off today we'll be making a trip to the fabric store to make a couple of huge floor cushions.

The new issue of Sweet Paul magazine is out! I love every bit of it. It's dedicated to kids, how perfect is that! I found so much inspiration. One of the many things that caught my eye is the Etsy store"Wee Waldorf" featuring a skittles play set (second image), how adorable. When I read that Wee Waldorf was started from a desire to "rid my girls' room of commercial plastic toys", I fell in love. I'm attempting the same thing. I actually don't really have too many toys for Jackson. Right now he prefers the cupboards, but I plan to avoid it becoming an issue by sticking to wooden toys as much as possible. So, these products are perfect, aren't they?

Little Shoes...Which to Choose

As I mentioned last week, my little Jackson will be turning one in 6 weeks! For his first pair of shoes, daddy took him to Striderite. They serve their purpose and all, but they leave a little to be desired in the cool/style category. I LOVE Converse, (not so much on my feet). So, I decided to get online last night to search the kids section, and whaddya know... they have them in his size. Yippee! Now, I just have to decide which style and color I love the most. I'm a fan of the color black, but I also like the blue. What to do, what to do???

My mom has this really great old white mantel. As of right now it's sitting in her garage. Maybe one of the pictures below will spark her interest. I know they all have mine. I'm especially loving the bathtub mantel. I've always had a love of clawfoot tubs, but with the addition of the mantel~ it's definitely perfection!

Is it just me, or are you too wishing it was summer, or at least spring? When I received my latest online catalog from Free People yesterday, I got giddy. But, then I remembered I live in Nevada where winter can drag on until May! So, for now I will dream of the days when I can walk outside without shivers instantly hitting me, or seeing my breath when I breathe!

Happy Monday y'all! For today's post, I thought I'd show a few items that I've created and refurbished!

The sign that you see in the background was a collaboration between me and my momma about 6 years ago. We just used some good ol items for the Home Depot, framed it out, painted, sanded, and painted some more. It is one of my favorite pieces.

The two chairs that are pictured were picked up at our local GW (goodwill), and were recovered and repainted with a rustic finish.

And finally, that knit cable throw. That is my latest gift from my sweet mother in law. I had been ooh and ahhing over cable knits I had scene in Pottery Barn and West Elm, so my dear MIL decided to whip one up for me.

Well, that is for today's Make It Monday. Hope you go out and make something special of your very own.

I was checking out the most recent issue of Lonny magazine for decorating inspiration. Of course the magazine didn't disappoint. However, what really got me were these two pages. I mean how could you not salivate looking at these images. Chocolate goodness from the new "Baked" book, and then a buttermilk pudding cake with sugared raspberries recipe from Simple Fresh Southern. Oh yes please, I'll take both- I'll just skip breakfast and lunch and indulge in these two yummies instead.

Grey Velvet and Distressed Wood

Wow! Where has the time gone. It's already the 18th of January, and I'm just now blogging in the new year. I swear time just gets away from me.

I've been busy though, I promise. I'm in the process of trying to open a new etsy store, so I've been busy trying to make a few things. One of them I will post a pic of next week. Aside from that, just busy chasing my 9 month old around. He's walking now, and doesn't slow down. Oh, and I finally got back into my serious exercise routine- that's right!

So, here's a little decorating inspiration for the day. You know I love me some distressed wood, and I also love me some velvet. Really, you just can't go wrong with the combination.

A Handmade Christmas

Here is a little photo collage of my handmade Christmas gifts. I chose to make Irish Cream (yummy!), pecan balls, and "Joy" ornaments. I found the free garland template on another blog (I'm trying to desperately to remember which one), and used it for my ornaments and the labeling on my packages.I purchased wooden crates for the containers, attached decorative branches, and pine cones, layered the inside with shredded Christmas wrapping (thanks paper shredder you did a great job!), and added a Merry Christmas photo for the final touch. All in all I'm very pleased with the results. Did you make your gifts this year? Now I'm off to finish my mom's gift, which I will post pics of next week!

Food Friday...Peppermint!

So, let me just tell you that I love peppermint in the months of December and possibly January, but that's it, no other months of the year- is that strange? Because I have such a love for peppermint in said months, I have been anticipating the return of the Candy Cane blizzard at DQ for some time now. In November, I look forward to the pumpkin frappuccino at Starbucks, and December it's the blizzard. But guess what???? DQ isn't offering it this year. Instead it has been replaced with Reindeer Bites (toasted coconut, choco chunks, caramel and pie pieces blended with creamy vanilla soft serve)- bleck! I was soooo disappointed that I've decided to make my own peppermint dessert. Here are a few that I'm sure will satisfy my craving!

I gotta a good one today. I usually don't like to duplicate an Etsy store that was just blogged about, but I couldn't resist this one. So~ if I have to be a copy cat so be it! I must also confess that I was pretty sure I was over the whole Union Jack thing... but I LOVE these pillows. Today's Food Friday is dedicated to my sister Sara. I ran across a blog recently~ and I immediately knew that I must write a post. The name of the blog alone is reason enough to love it, but then I saw all the yummy recipes and knew from this point forward I will not miss a day of visiting this site. Are you ready???? Here it is ..."Not Without Salt". My sister will laugh and jump for joy when she reads this because she is truly the BIGGEST lover of salt. One recipe in particular caught my attention- and the story that accompanies it is truly meaningful.

Bacon Caramels! If I had bacon in my house right now, I would be eating these for dinner! I love velvet blue in my winter decor. As a matter of fact I just pulled out my velvet pillows for the year. I've never really been a feather girl, but when I came across the blue velvet with feather pillow I thought it was a great idea. I found this post over at Remodelista, and got so giddy! I know I could make my own set of shelving just like the one below. Matter of fact, when we were at the pumpkin patch this weekend there were stacks of pallets just sittin' there waiting for me to take them home. I am going back there today to ask if I can either purchase, or have them (fingers crossed). I think the shelves would go perfect in my little Jax's playroom. Such a simple idea- stacked pallets securely attached together- and jelly roll pans for drawers! What do you think?

Food Friday! Mushrooms On My Mind!

Does anyone else love mushrooms? A great mushroom soup is just the prescription for a chilly fall day. To be honest, I have yet to try any of the recipes below but I plan to make at least the soup in the near future (hopefully this weekend)! Then, I will work my way towards the risotto and maybe by Christmas will have found the time to make and devour the lasagna. That's just how I am, no sharing just consume it all by me self! Yum.

Weekend in Truckee

I know it's Monday and I should be posting on something to make by hand, but I couldn't resist posting these pics instead. My little man is 6 months old~ with his two bottom teeth~ semi- crawling~ sitting up perfectly~ smiling and talking like mad~ and he's infatuated with his left hand. Not his right, just his left. It's really- really cute to watch him twist and twirl and stare in amazement at his little hand. Ok, enough about my boy.

We snapped the photo just outside of Truckee. We spent the weekend hiking, eating and enjoying some much needed family time. It was awesome even if Jackson didn't sleep!

Alrighty then. If I have time to take pics of the bibs I'm trying to sew up for him, I'll post those later on as my "Make It Monday" project.

Today I'll be out hunting for pumpkins, acorns, and branches of leaves I can cut off of trees while no one is looking. I have to do it, I don't have any oak trees in my own yard, and it's a given that my house has at least two glass containers with fall leaves~ I have to get my fall vibe on you know. Don't tell on me.

How long has it been??? A VERY long time since my last WedETSY post, bad-bad Heather. There are endless options on Etsy, narrowing it down to three is difficult, but I was up for the challenge! Hope you enjoy!

Aren't these 100% duck canvas dog beds adorable. I love their simplicity. I was tempted to order one for each of my dogs, but I know what will happen. They will rip them apart when I least expect it- it never fails! They look innocent enough, but I know better.

It's that time of year and I love cable knit. Hand Knitted Things has these fingerless gloves in all of my favorite fall colors- Yummy!~ I don't know what my deal is, but I'm addicted to the color mustard right now. Those gloves have my name on 'em.

Finally, because I do have a little one- it's a given that I will check etsy for him! How adorable is this shop. Plus I love their tag line "Natural play for little peeps!" I truly appreciate that their products are "Handmade from birch, sanded smooth by hand. Wood-burned details. Leaves were painted with certified AP Nontoxic watercolor paints, and puzzle was finished with homemade natural beeswax wood polish." When your little one puts everything he comes across in his mouth a safe toy option makes me a little less paranoid! Just a little though.

Outdoor Decor... Pumpkins!

Don't you just love pumpkins! I made a stop at Whole Foods last week to check out their supply, but came home empty handed. Instead, we are going to make a trip to the new pumpkin patch that opened this year just down the road from us. I'm always on the hunt for inspiring display ideas, and these images get my decorating heart abeatin' . I'll admit I don't have a wheelbarrow, an urn, or a window sill, but I'm sure I can find some unused container laying around the house and jazz it with some lovely pumpkins!

PS. It's been raining for the past couple of days and I just love it! I have my spiced nutmeg candle burning- now I just need to start baking. I even picked up my first of the season pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks- Heaven, I'm in Heaven! Love, love, love this time of year!

Make It Monday! !

Halloween is just around the corner and even though my little one is just shy of 6 months, we still plan to put him in the stroller and walk around just a bit. Originally I planned to have him wear a fleece outfit I picked up at Target. It's cute enough, but definitely not as cute as this...

I just love this little masked owl costume! I found it over at Martha-what a great Make It Monday idea. If you are interested click here to follow the step by step tutorial. I'm really leaning towards trying my hand with this costume. Pics to follow if I do give it a shot!

Five Months~ 17 Pounds!

I know I should be posting about food, but seeing as how I have been absent for so long... and my little guy is 5 months- I felt I must post pics instead! Yes, he is indeed 17 pounds - and quite the eater.

The pediatrician recommended we start him on solids. I've been making my own baby food, and actually I love it! To date he's munched on sweet potatoes, carrots, butternut squash, peas, zucchini, apples, pears and plums. The only thing that he didn't like too much were the plums- I think they were just too tart. Otherwise he has gobbled up every bite! Just like mommy- loves his food!

He's also trying desperately to crawl, and he loves to stand.

We started sleep training a few backs- steadily improving every few days. I can't believe how difficult it was for me to no longer sleep next to him- I miss my little guy but know it's for the best.

Well, that's all for now. I think I hear him stirring- so back to mommying I go!

Make It Monday... Jewelry Frame

I've been wanting to create a frame to display my jewelry. I found these frames at Pottery Barn of all places and love the simplicity. Can you believe their frames range in price from $29 - $49 - Yikes! The junk store is calling my name for a frame and I already have the wire! I think I can pull off this project for no more than $5. Stay tuned for next Monday when I post pics of my DIY jewelry frame.

I'm also loving Modcloth's frame with the fabric insert... I might have to steal that idea.

Food Friday- Meyer Lemons!

Happy Friday! The weather here is going to be beautiful this weekend. Sooo looking forward to enjoying some time outdoors, and we are finally planting our garden. I also have plans to use the meyer lemons I picked up from Whole Foods yesterday. There are so many yummy looking recipes, I'm not sure which one to try. Do I want to try cupcakes, pound cake, curd, sorbet... I hate decisions! I also found a lemon thyme water recipes, and a preserved lemon recipe. I will definitely try these as they are simple and won't add to the waistline!

Mother's Day Weekend

Hello friends! I am celebrating my first official mother's day weekend, and I couldn't be happier. The weather is going to be beautiful (fingers crossed no wind). My plans are simple for the next couple of days, but it's the simple things that make me so happy! Today I plan to stop by the nursery for herbs to plant in the garden. Tomorrow I plan to sleep in and enjoy coffee in bed, followed by a walk with baby in Bjorn, then.... I'm getting a mani- pedi- woo!hoo! I desperately need both. I discovered this barn via Remodelista, and I can't stop thinking about it. What a perfect location for a summer wedding, family reunion, dinner party, etc. I could also envision this space as a great restaurant, or an awesome boutique that hosts monthly barn sales and workshops! Lovin' the combination of neutrals, worn wood, antlers, lighting, and rugs. If you are interested in renting this space, it is available through Mint Locations... can't imagine what it might cost, but how cool would it be!

Happy Monday friends! I promised I would get back into blogging, so here I am really putting in the effort! I don't have a "Make It Monday" project to share with you, but I still think you'll be pleased with what I am sharing. I was lucky enough to receive the latest issue of Country Living magazine this weekend and I have to say it didn't disappoint. With summer fast approaching I dream of my some day cabin where the family can escape for pure relaxation. When I came across these images they just made me smile. This "Rustic Revival" family retreat in Ohio is just what I envision. I think I best post these pics on my vision board! Hope you enjoy this getaway as much as me! Food Friday!

Now that I'm a new mom of a nine day old boy, I have yet to find time to cook. My life used to revolve around what I was going to eat, at what time- and I would plan days in advance. I just loved thinking about food. Now it crosses my mind, but then a dirty diaper needs changing, or a stomach needs filling- and the days of free time to focus solely on food is long, long gone. However, I recognize that cheese and crackers here, and a bowl of cereal there is not providing enough nutrition for me or the babe. So, today I decided that I would start compiling quick and healthy recipes (when the time presents itself) and slowly I am going to incorporate more healthy meals.

Jackson's Nursery

Well friends, here I am in my 40 week glory!!! I can't believe the day has finally arrived. I'm trying to patiently await leaving for the hospital, but patience has never been a strong point of mine.

I wanted to share some nursery photos with you, as I have worked very hard on this little guy's room. Food Friday! Treats for My Sweet!

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and I've been trying to decide if we should go out to dinner, or stay in. If we go out- I want Italian, but if we stay in I was thinking crab legs! We'll probably spend the same amount either way- so we'll see. I think the real determining factor is finding an outfit to wear to dinner. I'm guessing I shouldn't show up in my yoga pants and husband's sweatshirt???

Anyway, you should know by now that I have a love of sweets- or maybe an addiction. That is the first thing that pops into my head during any holiday... what kind of dessert will we have?? Options are endless, but here are a few that I am contemplating. I've included two red velvet cupcake recipes. One is without frosting, and the other is with. If you are like me I take my cupcakes with extra frosting, then I separate the top portion from the bottom, eat the bottom first and then stuff my mouth with all that frosting! Gross I know!

Chalk It Up To An Addiction!

I know I've posted before on chalkboard paint, but when I found these images I knew I had to post again. I love how easily you can transform a door, wall, piece of furniture, etc. with a single coat of this stuff. Last year I painted the entire top portion of my outdoor dining table with chalkboard paint and I love it! Now I am contemplating painting a wall in my kitchen. I've just got to convince my husband!

Food Friday! It's All About the Treat!

It's Food Friday, and I am suffering from a very-very bad sweet tooth. Add to that my love of rice krispy treats, and I could be in serious trouble this weekend. What is it about these inexpensive krispy, chocolatey, marshmallowy, peanut buttery, fudgey little bars- you can't just eat one!

Ughh, another winter day!

I always love the idea of winter and snow for the holidays, but once that time has passed- I'm usually pretty sick of it! Today I was reading Snippet and Ink's blog about being sick of the cold (me too!) so she posted a spring inspiration board to help all of us cope for the day! It really makes me smile, and daydream about spring.

I also found this DIY tutorial on making these awesome garden markers from the site CutoutandKeep!

And then, when I thought my spirit was lifted enough- I found these images of the potting area and garden in the movie It's Complicated... now I'm in heaven- and ready to take on this gloomy day!

Make It Monday! Baby Room Decorating!

A few people have asked what theme I'm using for the nursery... so here it is! I wanted to go with a theme that wasn't truck, sport, or Disney inspired. I opted for a nature theme. Also, I don't care for primary colors, I tend to prefer more natural, muted tones.

I have an old dresser that my mom and I are re-doing... here is a picture of the color I tried to match. I tend to love worn furniture, so I might just use that technique as well.
This is an image from the latest Anthropologie catalog- and it has inspired me to paint the baby dresser drawers with numbers.

This leaf print fabric is just my style.

Now, I know this room is girly- and I'm having a boy, but I'm using it for inspiration- you just have to imagine it with my color theme. The thing I like the most is the bed made from palettes, and the old door used as the headboard. I think it would be nice to have a bed in the nursery. I'm just not sure I have the space.

Love these owls, which can be purchased through retromama's etsy site. You can also purchase the pattern and make your own, I think I might!

I'm thinking of doing a wall tree and really like this one, just not the colors...

and this one is also inspiring me. I might just use real tree branches to create a tree, then make felt birds to hang from the branches... we'll see.

I have lots of old crates, so I will definitely use at least one for the room and fill it with books or toys!

Well, now you know what is inspiring my nursery decorating. I'm getting really excited! I plan to show progress pictures just as soon as I clear out the room and get going on putting it all together!

Food Friday! Cookies... yes please!

I won't actually be baking today, but I will be dreaming of these chocolate chip cookies that I found through the wonderful blog Lovely Morning. When Kristina mentioned the recipe for these cookies included sea salt, I knew I had to try a batch for myself.

And don't these cookies from Sheena at The Little Red House blog look just as scrumptious.

Maybe you are one of the thousands or millions with a New Year's resolution to eat healthy this year... if that's the case then this recipe should suit you fine. The poose cookie made with whole wheat flour by Steph Chows look tasty, tasty too!

I love kitchens that can fit a dining table right in the center of it all.

Those damn beams, they get me every time. Love how the headboard is framed out of rustic beam too!

New Year, New Me!

Well hello friends. It's been a while hasn't it. I had every intention of blogging on the 1st day of January, but obviously that didn't work out too well. So here I am a little more than a week late, but nonetheless I'm here.

For the return of Make It Monday I decided to post on baby projects because as you know I am expecting a little one in three short months. My mom and I will putting together the room in the coming weeks- before and after photos to follow.

Here are a few sewing projects I will be sure to make as soon as I find the perfect fabric.

and this hooded towel. Plus her fabric is just too cute.

I have an old dresser that is currently being redone and will perfectly fit this changing station.

and when I'm on the go I'm sure to not leave home without one of these changing pads.

and finally I've heard babies love a snuggler.

Well, I will be hunting for fabric this week and then the sewing craze will begin.
